Safety & Matchmaking Tips
Finding a life partner is a beautiful journey, but it requires caution and common sense. While Goodluck Matrimony employs strict manual checks and phone verifications, it is important for you and your family to stay vigilant. Please read these safety guidelines carefully before proceeding with any match.
1. Protect Your Financial Information
This is the most critical rule of online matchmaking:
- Never Send Money: Do not wire money, transfer funds, or provide your bank account/credit card details to anyone you meet on the platform, no matter what their story or emergency is.
- Beware of Customs/Gift Frauds: A common scam involves a match sending an expensive "gift" from abroad, followed by a call from someone pretending to be customs asking for a clearance fee. This is a scam.
2. Keep Initial Communications on the Platform
Use our internal chat and messaging features initially.
- Don't be too quick to move to personal email, WhatsApp, or phone calls until you have established a basic level of trust.
- If someone insists on getting your phone number immediately or moving off the platform, proceed with caution.
3. Guard Your Personal Information
While honesty is important in a relationship, you should be careful about revealing too much too soon.
- Do not share your home address, workplace details, or daily routine with someone you have just met online.
- Share such details only after multiple conversations, verifying their background, and ideally after meeting them with your family.
4. Involve Your Family
Marriage in our culture is a union of families. We highly recommend involving your parents, siblings, or guardians early in the process. Their experience and perspective can often help identify red flags that you might miss.
5. Conduct Your Own Background Checks
While we verify the mobile numbers and review profiles, we cannot verify the entire personal history of every member.
- Ask for links to their social media profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook).
- Verify their workplace and educational background independently if things get serious.
- Cross-check the details they share with you against the details on their profile.
6. Meeting Offline
When you decide to meet a match in person:
- Always meet in a safe, public place like a coffee shop or a family restaurant.
- Never go to their home, a secluded area, or a hotel room for the first meeting.
- Take a family member or a friend along for the first meeting.
- Inform someone at home about where you are going and who you are meeting.
7. Report Suspicious Behavior
Help us keep the community safe. Immediately report a profile to us if they:
- Ask you for money or financial help.
- Provide inconsistent stories about their job, location, or marital status.
- Use offensive, abusive, or inappropriate language.
- Provide fake photos or refuse to do a video call after building a connection.
How to Report?
Use the "Report Profile" button available on every member's profile page, or contact our trust and safety team directly at contact@goodluckmatrimony.com.
